State the form of “The Whitsun Weddings”: the number of stanzas, the number of lines in each, and the rhyme scheme.
Each stanza uses five different rhyme sounds, with the pairs spread across the ten lines.
Which of the following is the best claim to open a critical appreciation of the poem?
A claim must be about meaning and must be something you could prove with evidence.
What is the rhyme scheme of each stanza in the poem?
The poem does not use rhyming couplets.
Plan a full critical appreciation of the poem: an introduction with a thesis, four body paragraphs and a conclusion. For each paragraph give its focus and one specific piece of evidence, naming the stanza and describing the feature in your own words.
Each paragraph needs a focus, a stanza reference and a described feature, and the conclusion should echo your thesis.
Write an evaluation paragraph of about 150 words in which you make one criticism of the poem and one defence of it, and end with an overall judgement. Do not quote the poem.
Use the pattern strength, limit, defence, judgement, and put a reason after every judgement.
