Today, we'll be talking about global warming. Can anyone tell me what global warming is?
I think it’s about the Earth getting hotter.
Exactly! It’s the increase in Earth's average temperature. This happens because of gases trapping heat in our atmosphere.
What gases are causing this?
Great question! The primary culprits are carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide, known collectively as greenhouse gases. Remember, CO₂ and CH₄ lead to climate change!
So, is this caused by humans?
Yes! Human activities, such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation, significantly contribute to the increase in these greenhouse gases.
Let’s discuss the causes of global warming. Can anyone give me an example?
Maybe cutting down trees?
Exactly! Deforestation decreases our ability to absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere. What other activities do you think add to global warming?
Burning gasoline in cars?
Correct! Burning fossil fuels for energy and transportation releases large amounts of greenhouse gases. Always remember: fossil fuels = greenhouse gas emissions!
Now let's explore the effects of global warming. Who can share what might happen as the planet warms up?
I heard it’s causing ice to melt in the Arctic.
Right! Melting polar ice and glaciers leads to rising sea levels, which can flood coastal areas. Can anyone mention another effect?
Changes in weather patterns?
Yes! We might experience more extreme weather events like hurricanes and droughts due to disrupted climate patterns. Remember: warmer climate = unpredictable weather!
Let’s discuss how global warming relates to climate change. How do you think they are connected?
Isn’t climate change just a broader term that includes global warming?
Exactly! Global warming is a key driver of overall climate change, which includes shifts in temperature, rainfall, and weather extremes. Remember: global warming = climate change!
The rise in Earth's average temperature due to human activities.
Gases that trap heat, increasing global temperatures.
A significant contributor to global warming as it reduces carbon absorption.
The long-term changes in climate conditions influenced by global warming.
To remember global warming's cause, just think of CO₂’s applause!
Once upon a time, the Earth warmed, causing icebergs to melt and seas to rise, and the animals began to realize they needed to protect their home.
To remember the effects of global warming, think of 'MICE': Melting ice, Increased flooding, Climate shifts, Extreme weather!
Remember 'WARM': Warming Atmosphere, Rising sea levels, More storms.

The increase in Earth's average surface temperature caused by human activities, particularly the emission of greenhouse gases.
Gases such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide that trap heat in the atmosphere.
The clearing of forests, which contributes to increased greenhouse gas emissions.
Long-term alterations in temperature, precipitation, wind patterns, and other elements of Earth's climate system.
Global warming refers to the increase in Earth's average surface temperature due to human activities, chiefly the emission of greenhouse gases.
This section explains global warming, outlining its causes such as greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and industrial activities. It details the resulting effects, including melting ice, rising sea levels, changing rainfall patterns, and more extreme weather events.
Global warming is defined as the rise in Earth's average surface temperature primarily driven by human-induced factors. The most significant causes of global warming are the excessive release of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide (CO₂) and methane (CH₄), largely stemming from deforestation, industrial processes, and fossil fuel combustion. The impacts of global warming are profound and widespread, manifesting as melting polar ice and glaciers, increasing sea levels, altering rainfall patterns, and more frequent and severe weather events. Understanding and addressing global warming is critical for future climate policy and environmental sustainability.
