5 cards from this section. Quick, good the night before a test.
Write down the terms of 4a² − 3ab + 7, and give the coefficient of ab.
Keep the sign with each term.
Find the value of 3x + 4 when x = 5.
Replace x by 5, then multiply before adding.
How many terms are there in 5x³ − 2x² + 7x − 4?
Count the parts separated by plus and minus signs.
What is the coefficient of x² in 5x³ − 2x² + 7x − 4?
Keep the sign with the term.
Matchstick "houses" are built in a row. One house (a square with a triangular roof) uses 6 sticks, and each new house shares a wall with the one before. Two houses use 11 sticks and three use 16. Write an expression for n houses, find the sticks needed for 20 houses, and find how many houses can be built with exactly 76 sticks.
Find the fixed number of sticks each new house adds, then the starting number.
Try this trick: think of a number, double it, add 6, halve the result, then subtract the number you first thought of. Show with algebra why the answer is always 3.
Use a letter for the unknown number and write each step as an expression.
