Today, we are going to review the basic anatomy of the heart. Can someone tell me where the heart is located?
It's in the chest, right?
Correct! More specifically, it's behind the sternum. To help remember, think of it as being 'centered' in your chest like a heartbeat, right at the 'center' of life.
How do we find it on a manikin?
Great question! We use landmarks like the sternum to locate the heart. Let's practice that now with our manikins.
Now we're going to practice compression-only CPR. Can anyone tell me the key to effective compressions?
You need to press hard and fast!
Exactly! Use the rhythm of 'Stayin’ Alive' at about 100 to 120 compressions per minute. Let's use the metronome to help us maintain that pace.
What if I get too tired?
If you're fatigued, switch with a teammate. Remember the key phrase: Teamwork makes the dream work!
Now let's move on to the AED. Who can remind us what AED stands for?
Automated External Defibrillator!
Exactly! In a real-life situation, it's important to quickly unpack the AED and follow its prompts. Let's simulate an emergency. Who wants to volunteer?
I will! What's the first step?
First, you need to turn it on. After that, we will attach the pads. Let's practice this together!
A lifesaving technique necessary for emergency situations when someone has stopped breathing.
An essential device that can help restart a heart that has gone into a deadly rhythm.
Understanding where the heart is located aids in effective CPR administration.
Proper techniques ensure blood flow during CPR.
In a crisis, don't delay, push hard, keep the heart at play.
Imagine a knight (the rescuer) fighting for the heart's survival; each compression is a sword strike bringing life back to the realm.
Remember 'C - E - A': Compress, Evaluate, Apply (for CPR and AED).
AED: A - Attach, E - Energize, D - Defibrillate.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, a lifesaving technique used in emergencies to help someone who has stopped breathing or whose heart has stopped.
Automated External Defibrillator, a device that analyzes heart rhythms and, if necessary, delivers an electrical shock to restore a normal rhythm.
The act of pushing down on the chest during CPR to maintain blood flow to the heart and brain.
Identifying specific anatomical points on the body to guide medical procedures, such as CPR.
This section focuses on mastering CPR techniques and building confidence in AED usage.
In this section, students will learn essential CPR skills, including the anatomy of the heart, the steps of compression-only CPR, and practical use of an AED through role-playing exercises. The goal is to develop competence and confidence in emergency response situations.
This section emphasizes the vital importance of first aid skills, particularly CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) proficiency. By understanding the anatomy of the heart and practicing critical skills, students will enhance their capability to respond effectively during emergencies.
By the end of this section, students will be equipped with hands-on experience and the confidence necessary to perform CPR and utilize an AED effectively in real-life situations.
