3 cards from this section. Quick, good the night before a test.
What is fluid statics?
Think about the characteristics of fluids that do not move.
Define buoyancy.
Consider why boats float.
What is the equation for pressure at a given depth?
Think about the variables involved in defining pressure.
True or False: The buoyant force on a submerged object is always equal to its weight.
Consider what happens when something is submerged.
An irregularly shaped object is submerged in water. If it displaces 8 liters of water and the density of the fluid is 1000 kg/m³, calculate the buoyant force acting on the object.
Remember the relationship between displaced volume and buoyancy.
A submerged rectangular gate has dimensions 2m * 1m and is inclined at an angle of 30 degrees. Calculate the resultant force on the gate when submerged to a depth of 3m.
Keep in mind that the effective area could change based on the angle.
