What does a manometer measure?
Think about the basic principle of how it works.
What is hydrostatics?
Consider the contexts where fluids are not moving.
What is the primary function of a manometer?
Consider the primary use of the device in fluid mechanics.
True or False: An inclined manometer is better for measuring high pressure.
Think about the characteristics of pressure measurement devices.
A U-tube manometer is used to measure pressures in a fluid system. The left side shows a height of 40 cm with mercury (density = 13600 kg/m³), and the right side shows a height of 10 cm with water (density = 1000 kg/m³). Calculate the pressure difference between the two sides.
Use the density and height values to derive the pressures first, then calculate the difference.
A differential manometer is installed between two points in a water system, with point A at a higher level than point B, while both situations are under the influence of gravity. If the height difference between the two liquids in the manometer is measured to be 25 cm with a hydraulic fluid of density 850 kg/m³, calculate the pressure difference in pascals.
Remember to apply the hydrostatic pressure formula directly.
