3 cards from this section. Quick, good the night before a test.
What is the principle of conservation of mass?
Remember that mass can only change forms or be transported.
Define extensive properties.
Consider examples like mass and energy.
What is the Reynolds Transport Theorem used for?
Think about how it links flow to mass and energy.
True or False: Intensive properties depend on the amount of substance in a system.
Consider examples like pressure or temperature.
A tank has a flow in of 10 m³/s and a flow out of 8 m³/s. Using RTT, calculate the change in the volume within the control volume over a 1-hour period.
Determine the net flow first before multiplying by time.
Consider an incompressible flow through a pipe. If the cross-sectional area of the pipe reduces, how does this affect the flow velocity? Use the principles of conservation of mass to explain your reasoning.
Think about how the flow must adjust as it passes through a constriction.
