Welcome, class! Today, we are going to explore the wonderful world of probability. Can anyone tell me what probability measures?
Is it how likely something is to happen?
Exactly! Probability measures the likelihood of events occurring, ranging from 0 to 1. Can anyone give me an example of an event with a probability of 0?
Getting a number higher than 6 on a die!
Great example! And what about an event with a probability of 1?
Winning if the game is rigged for you!
That's right! To help you remember, think of '0' as 'Oh no, it can't happen!' and '1' as 'One hundred percent sure!'
Now that we understand what probability is, let's delve into some key terms. Who can tell me what an 'Experiment' is in probability?
Isn't it just something we do to see the outcomes, like tossing a coin?
Exactly! An experiment produces outcomes. It can be anything from tossing a coin to rolling a die. How about a 'Trial'?
Each time we toss the coin is one trial, right?
Right again! Each repetition of an experiment is a trial. Let’s discuss 'Outcome' next. What’s an outcome?
The result we get from a trial!
Spot on! And finally, what is a 'Sample Space'?
It’s the set of all possible outcomes, like {Heads, Tails} for a coin.
Great job! Remember, the acronym E.T.O.S. can help you: Experiment, Trial, Outcome, Sample Space.
Now let's think about how we see probability in real life. Who can give me an example?
Tossing a coin!
Or rolling a die!
Exactly! These are simple experiments. What about something more complex, like AI applications?
Predicting the weather? Like saying there’s a 70% chance of rain!
Perfect! That’s a great application of probability. Remember, probability isn't just about numbers; it's about making informed decisions based on uncertainty.
Probability's a range, zero to one, it’s not just for fun, it’s how fate is run.
Imagine each time you flip a coin, fate decides Heads or Tails; just like in life, with decisions based on chances!
E.T.O.S. - 'Experiment, Trial, Outcome, Sample Space'!
'P.H.A.T.' - Probability, Heads or Tails, Always remember the importance of outcomes!

A measure of how likely an event is to occur, ranging from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain).
An action or process that produces outcomes.
Each repetition of an experiment.
A possible result of a trial.
The set of all possible outcomes of an experiment.
A subset of the sample space.
Probability measures the likelihood of events happening, ranging from 0 (impossible) to 1 (certain).
This section introduces the concept of probability, explaining its range, terms, and providing real-life examples. It also sets the foundation for understanding theoretical and experimental probability, along with its applications in AI.
Probability is a fundamental concept in mathematics that is concerned with quantifying uncertainty around events. It defines how likely an event is to occur, expressed as a value between 0 and 1, where 0 indicates that the event cannot happen, and 1 indicates that the event is certain to happen.
