3 cards from this section. Quick, good the night before a test.
Define amplitude in the context of waves.
Think about how loud a sound can get.
What does the phase of a wave indicate?
Consider where you are in a ride on a Ferris wheel.
What is the maximum displacement of a wave from its equilibrium position called?
Think about how loud a sound can be.
True or False: The phase of a wave is irrelevant to its energy.
How do waves interact with each other?
A sound wave travels with an amplitude of 0.5 meters. If you want to double its volume, what should the new amplitude be? What does this signify for sound perception?
Remember, intensity is related to the square of the amplitude!
Two similar waves are described with amplitudes of 1 and 0.5 meters, with phases of 0 and π/2, respectively. Determine the resultant amplitude when they interfere.
Use vector addition methods for interference calculations!
