Today, we're going to learn about wireframes. Can anyone tell me what a wireframe is?
Isn’t it a visual tool that shows the structure of a webpage?
Exactly! Wireframes are low-fidelity representations focusing on structure and layout rather than aesthetics. Their main goal is to define screen elements and visualize navigation flows.
Why do we use grayscale or placeholder images in wireframes?
Great question! The simplicity allows stakeholders to focus on the layout without being distracted by graphics. We want to clarify the functionality, not the visual design!
Where do we typically use wireframes?
Wireframes are used early in product design, particularly in stakeholder discussions. Remember: ‘Wireframes clarify!’
Now that we've covered wireframes, let's move on to mockups. Who wants to explain what a mockup is?
Mockups are detailed visual representations of the final product, right?
Exactly! They focus on how the final user interface will look and feel, including colors and typography. Why do you think they are important?
They help because we can collect feedback from users on the design!
Correct! Mockups help align all stakeholders on the desired visual design. They help ensure everyone is on the same page before development begins.
Do we use mockups at the same time as wireframes?
Good question! Typically, we start with wireframes to establish structure and layout, then transition to mockups after layout approval. Remember: 'Start simple, then refine!'
Let’s talk about tools. What tools do you think designers use for wireframing?
I’ve heard of Balsamiq. Isn’t it for low-fidelity wireframing?
Yes! Balsamiq is well-known for its sketch-like visuals and ease of use, perfect for quick wireframes. How about tools for mockups?
Figma is popular for that, isn’t it?
Absolutely! Figma allows for high-fidelity designs and real-time collaboration, making it ideal for both mockups and prototypes. Remember different tools serve different needs!
Can you recap why Balsamiq and Figma are preferred?
Sure! Balsamiq is intuitive and promotes fast iterations on wireframes, while Figma provides extensive design capabilities and collaboration features for high-fidelity mockups. 'Choose the tool for your goal!'
Wireframes are bare, mockups are grand; Structure first, then color at hand.
Imagine an architect drafting a blueprint (wireframe) before the final house is built (mockup) to ensure a solid foundation.
Use ‘W’ for Wireframe’s ‘What layout?’ and ‘M’ for Mockup’s ‘Make it colorful!’

Wireframes and mockups are essential tools in UI design, facilitating communication of user interface requirements among stakeholders.
This section discusses wireframes and mockups, highlighting their definitions, purposes, characteristics, and use cases. It explains how these tools help clarify design intentions, validate user flows, and shape effective user experiences in product development.
Wireframes and mockups are crucial visual aids that Business Analysts utilize to articulate user interface (UI) requirements effectively. They help various stakeholders—including designers and developers—grasp and confirm screen layouts, user interaction workflows, and functionality prior to moving into the development phase.
This section also outlines tools for creating wireframes and mockups, includes a comparison of both, and shares important tips for Business Analysts when using these tools effectively.
