Cement plays a crucial role in modern construction as the primary binding material in concrete and mortar, impacting the strength and durability of structures. This chapter focuses on the production and chemical composition of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), highlighting its manufacturing processes, raw materials, and innovative practices in the cement industry. Environmental considerations and the standards governing cement production in India are also discussed.
Cement is essential for infrastructure development, influencing strength and durability.
Understanding the manufacturing process, especially the dry process, is crucial for effective cement production.
Quality control and environmental innovations are key components of modern cement manufacturing.
The most widely used type of cement, characterized by its strength and versatility in construction applications.
Four main compounds formed during the burning of oxides in cement, each with specific roles in the setting and hardening process.
Exothermic reactions occurring when cement is mixed with water, which can lead to temperature rises in massive concrete structures.
A mineral added to cement during grinding to control setting time by delaying the hydration of tricalcium aluminate.
A set of procedures to ensure the chemical and physical properties of cement meet established standards for performance.
